News of her passing, which occurred on December 2, first appeared on TMZ but news of her illness made national news in September 2024.

Eminem’s rocky relationship with his mother became a recurring theme throughout his music career and that relationship, in addition to his rise among the Detroit rap scene, was highlighted in the 2002 semi-autobiographical film, 8 Mile.

Despite their turbulent history, Debbie congratulated her son online when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

“Marshall, I want to say, I could not let this day go by without congratulating you on your induction into the Hall of Fame,” she said in a since-deleted video. “I love you very much. I knew you’d get there. It’s been a long ride.. I’m very, very proud of you.”

Earlier this year, Em revealed that he would soon be a grandfather.

The music video for his track “Temporary,” released in October,  served as a dedication to his daughter, Hailie Jade. The clip includes footage of their relationship over the years, as well as recent footage from Hailie’s wedding to Evan McClintock in May. The video also shares Hailie breaking the news to her dad that she’s expecting her first child.

In the adorable reveal, Hailie gifted Em with a custom Detroit Lions jersey with “Grandpa” on the back, followed by a photo of the sonogram.
