Beloved rapper and hype man Flavor Flav, wore a special clock necklace to honor 26-year-old Lulu Conner, the late sister-in-law of Maggie Steffens who is currently competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics with the U.S. Women’s Water Polo team.
Flav, who became an ambassador for the team in May, shared an emotional video to his Instagram page on July 28 in which he could be seen placing Lulu’s handmade clock around his neck by one of her family members. The former Public Enemy star looked emotional upon rocking the sentimental item.
“Wow. That’s what I’m talking about,” he said in the video before giving Lulu’s loved ones a hug. The video contained a close-up still image of the clock that contained a sweet message from Lulu in support of the U.S. Women’s Water Polo team.
“Made with love by Lulu Conner. Let’s go USA WWP,” it read.

In the caption, Flav, 65, vowed to wear the precious necklace “for the duration of the Olympics and beyond.”
What happened to Lulu Conner?
According to the Associated Press (AP), Conner died on July 23 after traveling to Paris to cheer on Steffens in the competition. It’s unclear how her death occurred, but the family believes her unexpected passing may have been due to “a medical emergency.”
Steffens said her sister-in-law was “excited for the Olympic Games” during an interview with AP. “We’re really close. She’s the light of the world. She just brings so much joy to everyone. She always brings people together,” the athlete added.
Flavor Flav officially became a sponsor for the Women’s Water Polo team after making an undisclosed donation to the team in response to Steffens’ Instagram post seeking support ahead of the Paris Olympics.
“Many of my teammates aren’t just badass champions, but also teachers, business owners, coaches, physicians assistants, and more,” the post published May 4 read. “Some may not know this, but most Olympians need a 2nd (or 3rd) job to support chasing the dream (myself included!) and most teams rely on sponsors for travel, accommodations, nutritional support, rent/lodging, and simply affording to live in this day and age. Especially female sports and female athletes. We’ve had companies & amazing individuals support our sport alongside donors, USAWP & USOPC, but we always need more help.”
Flav responded to the post in the comments section offering up a helping hand.
“AYYY YOOO,,, as a girl dad and supporter of all women’s sports – imma personally sponsor you my girl,,, whatever you need,” the rap star commented. “And imma sponsor the whole team. My manager is in touch with your agent and imma use all my relationships and resources to help all y’all even more. That’s a FLAVOR FLAV promise.”
This was so beautiful to see!
