GloRilla is having an incredible week.
According to Billboard, the rising rap star sold around 69,000 equivalent album units in the first week after the release of her debut studio album, Glorious, which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. The Memphis native celebrated her achievement alongside other prominent female artists in the rap scene, including Nicki Minaj, who sold 228,000 units with the release of Pink Friday 2, and Doja Cat, whose album Scarlet generated nearly 72,000 in sales.
GloRilla, 25, took to TikTok on Oct. 21, to thank fans for all their love and support. “S/O to God, my fans and supporters & my team!!!! Thank y’all,” the rapper penned.
Fellow rapper, Wale, also hopped on social media to praise the rap star on her big feat, calling GloRilla “a light in the game right now.”
The 25-year-old star thanked the D.C. native for his kind words.
Who is GloRilla?
Born on July 28, 1999, Gloria Woods, known as GloRilla, first gained widespread attention in 2022 with her breakout single “F.N.F. (Let’s Go),” which quickly went viral on social media platforms like TikTok. The song’s catchy hook and high-energy production resonated with audiences, showcasing her unique style and confident delivery.
The hit song earned a spot on the Hot 100-chart when it debuted at No. 91, and peaked at No. 75, according to Billboard. “F.N.F.” also snagged nearly 43.2 million official on-demand U.S. streams, dominating the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Rap Airplay rosters at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively. Three months later, the buzzing hip-hop artist was signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG label, where her career has since risen to new heights.
Glorious was suppose to drop sooner, according to the star.
GloRilla’s music often reflects her experiences and challenges she’s faced, resonating with listeners through its authenticity and relatability. She has a distinctive voice and a powerful stage presence that sets her apart from other artists in the hip-hop genre. All of this can be experienced on Glorious, which features viral singles like “TGIF” and “Hollon,” but the album has been a long time in the making. GloRilla mentioned to Billboard earlier this month that she had hoped to release her debut project sooner but was still “getting used to” her busy schedule. She released a mixtape first to keep fans engaged while they awaited her debut album.
“When the top of the year came, I had the project basically done. I was like, ‘OK, I gotta give them the mixtape before I give them the album,’ because I went the whole year without dropping anything,” the rap star explained. “That’s why I said I was gonna give them the mixtape first, get em’ back used to me first, give ’em a feel of me, and then that’s gonnaprep me for the album. The mixtape did good and did what it was supposed to do, which prepped me for my album,” sheadded.
Congrats to GloRilla!
