The case of the Harrises versus MGA Entertainment is a prime example of the saying “Anything worth having is worth waiting for.” Tameka “Tiny” Harris details what must happen before she and her husband actually see their $71 million victory check.
The lawsuit centered around claims that MGA’s L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls were designed to mimic the distinct look, style, and image of T.I. and Tiny’s girl group, the OMG Girlz (including group members Bahja Rodriguez, Breaunna Womack and Tiny’s eldest daughter, Zonnique Pullins). The jury found that MGA infringed on the OMG Girlz’s likeness, with several dolls appearing identical to several of the group’s looks at “specific public events.” Although the jury reached a verdict—in favor of Tiny and T.I.—the process is far from over.
“The [ink] hasn’t even been dried yet…after that, [he has] 30 days after that to appeal. I’m saying [there’s a] 95% [chance] he’s going to appeal, however that appeal may look better for us [because] there were some other things we got cut [of…like] the OMG trademark.” -Tiny Harris
