The music world is in mourning following the tragic death of neo-soul icon Angie Stone, who passed away at the age of 63. We honor the fallen star with a gallery of her hits inside.
On Mar. 1, the announcement of the singer’s tragic death flooded the news circuit. Stone was leaving a show in Alabama when her and members from her team were involved in a car accident. She was the only one who was killed in the incident.
In honor of her enduring legacy, we have curated a special list of her top charting hits to celebrate her life and contributions to the music industry.
According to reports, Stone was traveling in a sprinter van near Montgomery, Alabama, when the vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler, causing it to overturn. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family released a statement expressing their profound grief, noting, “She lived and died doing what she loved most.”
Born in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1961, Angie Stone’s musical journey began with gospel music, influenced by her father’s quartet. She gained prominence as a member of the Sequence, one of the first female hip-hop groups, known for their 1979 hit “Funk You Up.”
Transitioning to R&B, she later joined Vertical Hold before embarking on a successful solo career.
Stone’s debut solo album, Black Diamond (1999), featured the hit single “No More Rain (In This Cloud),” which showcased her rich vocals and heartfelt lyrics. She continued to define the neo-soul genre with subsequent albums like “Mahogany Soul” (2001) and “Stone Love” (2004). Her collaborations with artists such as D’Angelo and Erykah Badu further were also major highlights in her prolific R&B career. Let’s not forget one of her greatest contributions being the legendary “Girlfriends” theme song.
We honor Angie Stone for all of her wonderful contributions and long lasting impact she’s left on the entertainment world. Rest easy, Ms. Stone.
