September 16 marked the highly anticipated return of The Jennifer Hudson Show for its third season. With a season filled with star power, engaging segments, and head-turning style, fans can’t get enough of JHud and her show.

As one of the few Black women holding down a recurring daytime talk show, Jennifer’s presence is everything. Representation matters, and the Chicago native has no problem showing us why.

As a chart-topping singer, mother of one, and entertainment mogul, Jennifer handles it all. Through her TV platform, she reminds us that Black women are magical. We are thriving boss babes who are vulnerable, stylish, inspirational, and everything in between.

‘I don’t take it lightly’: Jennifer Hudson on representation in television.

HelloBeautiful sat down with the Emmy-nominated host before her Season 3 premiere and chatted about the importance of being a Black woman in media. Jennifer didn’t hold back, sharing the responsibility she feels daily. She said, “It is important, and I don’t take it lightly, being in this position to have a platform to represent us.”

The American Idol star continued, discussing the shoulders she stands on from the Black women in her life, setting the stage for her to follow. For Jennifer, the women in her family—her mother, grandmother, and cousins—are her foundation and strength. She specifically talked about her late mother, Darnell Donnerson, who remains a guiding force in her life.

“My mom, Darnell Donerson, was very quiet, so it seems, in her life. But since she passed, it’s not a day that goes by that I don’t say ‘my mama used to say.’ I’m like, wow, she wasn’t really that quiet, Jennifer shared.

But what it was that when she did speak, it was valuable. It meant something. And those words are what I live by each and every day.”

Jennifer continues to make her mother proud with The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Season 3 kicked off with serious Black girl royalty as Jennifer sat down with the incomparable Angela Bassett. Their energy on stage was infectious, and their style was everything.

Angela slayed in a white wide-leg draped jumpsuit with a wide belt, while Jennifer brought her A-game in a red mock tuxedo jumpsuit with sheer long sleeves.

Both women obviously got the ‘monochromatic moment memo.
