Koryn Hawthorne is celebrating a huge milestone. Her first single, “Won’t He Do It,” has gone platinum, meaning a million records have been sold.
She spoke about the origins of the song back in 2019, saying she originally recorded “Won’t He Do It” for the soundtrack for the hit OWN show “Greenleaf.” While she didn’t write the song herself, her intention while recording the track was to make it feel personal. She didn’t want it to feel like a cover.
“I just wanted it to resonate with me so it could resonate with the people,” she said.

Upon its release in 2017, “Won’t He Do It,” rose to the top of Billboard’s three main Gospel charts. Hawthorne earned a Billboard Music Award, Dove Award and Stellar Award for the hit.
“This was my first single that has become a living testimony for me,” she said in an Instagram video celebrating the new certification. “People don’t understand the things that I go through on the day to day. Okay. ‘Fight your battles for you. They going to wonder how you sleep at night.’ That’s my life.”
Hawthorne went on to lament about how grateful she is that “Won’t He Do It” has helped her and others fight their toughest battles.
“God has came through for me in so many more ways, so I’m so grateful for His grace,” she continued. “I’m grateful for His promises and His word. And I’m so grateful that people know that God can do the unthinkable for them.”
Earlier this year, Hawthorne reflected on her accession in the entertainment industry during an interview with This Is RnB. Now in her late 20s, she feels while she started her journey as a teenager, this is still only the beginning for her and her career.
“It has been a long journey, but it also feels so fast. Just because I started so young … at 16 I was on ‘The Voice,’” she said. “When you achieve things at a young age, you only want better for yourself. So I feel like that’s what keeps me pushing like I need more. So we’re definitely going to keep getting all the things that God has for us. I love to say ‘only the beginning’ because it is, so I’m excited to see what’s coming next.”
