Previously on Power Book II: Ghost, Detective Carter (Michael Ealy) confirmed what we should have known about him from the start: He and his crew are a bunch of dirty cops. Diana (LaToya Tonodeo) decides to keep Riq’s (Michael Rainey Jr.) baby but makes it clear that she does not want the baby to grow up in a world where her parents are both dealing drugs. Good luck with that. Cane (Woody McClain) is firmly in bed with Noma (Caroline Chikezie), literally and figuratively, while Monet (Mary J. Blige) and Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray) bury the hatchet and take steps to get back in the game.
We have to give Riq credit for always finding a way to gain an advantage over someone. He can thank his daddy for that skill.
Noma and Cane meet up with Riq and Brayden (Gianni Paolo). Riq has an ace up his sleeve: He is knocking boots with Noma’s daughter Anya (Sydney Winbush), knowing that Anya has no idea that her mother is a drug-dealing superstar from across the pond.
Riq also has a drive (they always have a thumb drive on this show) and threatens to release it to the authorities and Anya if anything should happen to him or Brayden.
With this bargaining chip in hand, Riq negotiates new terms for his deal with Noma, and she agrees to them, much to the dismay of Cane, who still can’t stand Riq.
Detective Carter, aka the Alonzo Harris of Power, and his gang of crooked cops show up at the Tejada residence unannounced, surprising Monet, Diana, and Dru, who were having a moment after shopping for some stuff for the baby.
Carter decided he needed to pop up and show n***as because Monet was ignoring his calls, and it’s time to pay him his cut. Carter is also curious about who Monet got caught trying to steal drugs from. After threatening to throw her in jail and putting a gun to Diana’s head, she lies by saying she doesn’t know.
Not completely satisfied with her answer, they throw cuffs on Dru and task him with taking out one of the survivors of the drug heist who is clinging to life in prison and can identify them if he wakes up.
Noma and Cane meet with Wiley Adams to give him his final payment for the government contract. The meeting is interrupted when Zion litters the restaurants with bullets in broad daylight, killing Adams in the process and almost canceling Noma’s Christmas. Still, thanks to Cane, that didn’t happen.
Carter hears about Zion’s dumb move and is BIG MAD that he broke his one crucial rule: do not spill innocent blood. Zion then begs Carter to help him, and the crooked detective agrees to hide him in a safe house. What Zion doesn’t know is Carter is not a big fan of loose strings and secretly enlists Felicia, one of his goons, to head to the safe house to kill Zion.
On her way to carry out the job, Felica gets a call from Internal Affairs. She learns that her shenanigans have put her under a microscope, and she needs to talk with the department.
After bumping some booger sugar (cocaine), Felicia heads back to Monet’s house to speak with Diana and gives her the task of taking out Zion.
Diana looks at Felicia like, “Are you serious?” She should know that she isn’t a killer. Felicia tells Diana that if she doesn’t do the job, she will ensure that Dru dies in prison.
With no other options, Diana runs to Stansfield to tell Riq what’s happening and asks for his help. Riq’s former boo, Effie (Alix Lapri), happens to be in the school store and sees the future parents talking.
Effie rolls up on the conversation and puts two and two together, pointing out that she knows Diana is carrying Riq’s seed. The two ladies tell each other to kick rocks, and Riq runs straight to Davis’ (Cliff Method Man Smith) posh crib to discuss the latest developments.
Riq and Davis realize that by taking out Zion, they will accomplish two things: they will help Diana and have another way to get in with Noma.
Noma listens to their plan and is initially skeptical but says they will be good if Riq manages to kill Zion that night. Riq runs to get a very high Brayden and tells him about the hit.
They head to the safe house’s location, but the hit does not go as planned. Zion puts hands and feet on Riq and Brayden, but eventually, they get the upper hand. Before Riq delivers the fatal shot, Zion tells him about Carter’s crew.
Davis relays the news back to Cane, who then tells Noma while also lying that Zion was the one who stole her drugs.
At the same time, Felicia sees Riq and Brayden killing Zion on the safehouse’s security system, and she is not happy about that. She manages to track down Diana and brutally attacks her, kicking her in the stomach as Diana tries to tell her she’s pregnant, leaving her lying in a pile of trash.
Riq arrives at the location Diana told him to meet her at, and he finds his battered and bruised baby momma lying in a pile of trash, unconscious, and screams for help.
Carter once again meets with Monet, and she lies again, this time telling him the drugs they stole belonged to the Russians. Meanwhile, while in prison, Dru manages to kill his target after successfully instigating a fight with some other prisoners he overheard talking about snitching on Carter.
Killing two birds with one stone, he completes his task, uses his newfound leverage to rise in Carter’s ranks, and wants the corrupt cop to leave his mother and sister alone.
Speaking of Carter, he meets Detective Tate (Lahmard Tate), who has some information to spill after seeing something go down while raiding the Russian drug operation.
Tate saw one of Carter’s men walk off with a bag of money and pointed out that he knew he hadn’t submitted it as evidence because he had checked.
Carter tries to convince Tate not to pursue it, but he eventually kills the cop for just doing his job, breaking his rule of not spilling any innocent blood, and the episode ends.
