Damon Wayans Sr. is more than just a comedic legend. At 64, he’s also a certified Hollywood hunk. They say “Black don’t crack,” and the Major Payne star is living proof. From his first film appearance in 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop to his iconic run on SNL (1985-1986), Damon has been making us laugh and blush for decades with his hilarious humor and endearing smile on screen, and it appears he hasn’t aged one bit throughout.
The celebrity heartthrob recently appeared on The Big Podcast with Shaq released Feb. 28, where he revealed the secret behind his glowing and youthful appearance.
“So, I got diagnosed with diabetes about 10 years ago. And so I started growing fresh vegetables. I only eat my vegetables,” the actor and screenwriter told Shaq.
Damon also follows a strict exercise routine.
“I work out lifting heavier weights because that’s, you know, that’s what the scientists say, really helps you burn the sugar before you burn the fat and I’ve gotten control over my diabetes,” he said, jokingly adding, “…and I’m not out there whoring. That’s the key right there. That’ll make you old.”
Throughout his career, Damon has starred in beloved films like Mo’ Money (1993), Major Payne (1995), Bamboozled(2000), and even the 2023 film Cinnamon. He’s also known for his groundbreaking TV roles, including starring in, writing, and co-creating the hit sitcom My Wife and Kids. Damon’s ability to seamlessly switch between comedy, drama, and action made him a standout in shows like Damon, The Underground, and Lethal Weapon.
The Hollywood vet has showcased his versatility in films like The Last Boy Scout (1991), where he starred alongside Bruce Willis in the gritty crime thriller, and Bulletproof (1996), where he played a cop opposite Adam Sandler. His memorable roles continue with the 1994 superhero comedy Blankman and his unforgettable portrayal of a tough yet hilarious drill sergeant in Major Payne.
Damon’s talent has earned him four Emmy nominations for his work on In Living Color, where his writing and performances left an indelible mark on comedy history, according to Today. Off-screen, he’s the proud father of four children from his marriage to Lisa Thorner: Damon Jr., Kyla, Michael, and Cara Mia.
Currently, Damon Sr. is making waves alongside his son, Damon Wayans Jr., on the CBS sitcom Poppa’s House, which he co-created. The series, which premiered in 2024, features Damon Sr. as the family patriarch, proving that this Hollywood icon is still at the top of his game.
