Sheryl Lee Ralph is finally getting her official Hollywood flowers. The Emmy-winning actress, Broadway legend, and Abbott Elementary fan favorite received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 16, marking a well-deserved milestone in a career that has spanned decades.

Sheryl received the 2,808th star ever given in the category of Television.

Draped in a Harbison Studio gown, Sheryl looked radiant as she took in the moment. Family, castmates, longtime supporters, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority sisters surrounded her.

Her husband Vincent Hughes and children Ivy-Victoria and Etienne were front and center, along with a crowd that included her Abbott co-stars Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, and Loretta Devine — her Dreamgirls sister from the Broadway stage.

Entertainment Tonight’s Nischelle Turner hosted the ceremony. Speakers included Quinta Brunson and Loretta Devine, who praised Ralph’s consistency, power, and undeniable star presence.

“She is a master class in what it means to be an eternal and consistent diva,” said Quinta.

Devine added, “I’m amazed at her ability to get things done. She was strong in 1979, and she still is strong.”

During her emotional speech, Ralph reflected on the journey. “This star is not the finish line, it is the starting block,” Sheryl stated emphatically.

“I have been counted out, passed over, told I was too Black, too strong, too much—and yet, here I stand, she said. The beloved actress then dedicated her star to the Black women who came before her. In other words, she gave Ruby Dee, Cicely Tyson, and Rosalind Cash their flowers.

“Dreams don’t have an expiration date,” Sheryl said to the dreamers in the audience.

A true multi-hyphenate, Ralph’s career spans from her role as Deena in Dreamgirls on Broadway to Moesha, Sister Act 2, and most recently, her Emmy-winning performance as Barbara Howard on Abbott.

Adding to the day’s recognitions, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce officially named April 16 “Sheryl Lee Ralph Day” in Hollywood. Honestly, it’s about time.
