Summer is wrapping up and it’s time for Spotify to crown their 2024 Global Songs of Summer. They’re changing things up this year though. Instead of looking at just one song and streams alone, they’ve added editorial expertise and cultural impact into their equation to capture a more dynamic view of the sounds and moments that soundtracked the season.
Hand-picked by Spotify’s global music editorial team, these five tracks represent the various sounds and moments that defined summer 2024 for listeners across the Northern Hemisphere.
Listed alphabetically by artist, Spotify’s 2024 Songs of the Summer are:
“BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by Billie Eilish
“HOT TO GO!” by Chappell Roan
“Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar
“Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter
“A Bar Song (Tipsy) by Shaboozey
Representing the hip hop genre on Spotify’s 2024 Songs of Summer, “Not Like Us” transcended the rap beef that brought it to life, driving massive surges for Kendrick Lamar’s entire catalog on Spotify immediately following its release.
The season-defining track saw its biggest spike of the summer on June 20th (both globally and US) – the day after Kendrick’s highly-attended Juneteenth concert in Los Angeles. Sustaining momentum all summer long, the track spent 28 consecutive days at #1 on Spotify’s US Chart following the July 4th release of the track’s music video.
To find out more about each of these picks, see the song descriptions below or check out Spotify’s For The Record post. Congrats to the artists who made the list! Let us know if you think Spotify got it right and if not, share which songs you think should’ve made it.
