Latto — Sugar Honey Iced Tea
Two years after 777, Latto gives fans her newest album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea. With it, the Clayco rapper unveils a summer-ready feature-filled extravaganza.
So, who’s on the album? Megan Thee Stallion, Ciara, Mariah the Scientist, Teezo Touchdown, Coco Jones, Hunxho, and Young Nudy also appear on this LP’s Disc 1. Elsewhere, Cardi B and Flo Milli also lend their voices to Disc 2.
On “S/O To Me,” Latto addresses her ongoing feud with Ice Spice, whose real name is Isis. “It’s up with b-tches talkin’ spicy,” she raps. “I’m warring with y’all/ I ain’t really letting up on y’all until the coroner call/ Bye, sis/ Funny thing about it, you can’t look me in my eyes, sis.” Later, she seems to address Coi Leray as well: “I’m down to stoop lower than most of you h-es’ credit scores / Don’t play coy with me, you know what you headed for.”
But beyond any feud-based talk, Latto says the LP is meant to be taken as a full run-through from start to finish. “When the album drop pls listen in order and don’t skip big mama just cuz it’s already out,” she recently tweeted. “I put a lot of effort into the sequence.”
Polo G — Hood Poet
Polo G is a Hood Poet. As such, the often introspective hard-hitting MC unleashes his newest album under that title. It features 18 songs and some familiar faces.
For example, Future, GloRilla, G Herbo, 42 Dugg, Fridayy, Lil Durk, Offset, and Hunxho are all guests on this offering. Meanwhile, Southside, Dr. Luke, and Noah Goldstein are among the album’s producers.
Polo speaks “From the Heart” on this album, perhaps most poignantly on the final track. “Asked if I’m the greatest, I told them only time will tell / Came a long way from a dope base clientele / And my ambition wasn’t ever gonna grow if I failed,” he raps on “From the Heart.”
Capalot also recently posted about his evolution and the album on Instagram. “Regardless of what they say I came a long way,” he wrote. “This The same block where I used to trap and run from the police. I stood right here risking my freedom for a extra few 100 dollars everyday investing it back into myself to be who I am Right Now.”
Chlöe — Trouble In Paradise
One year after dropping her solo debut album In Pieces, Chlöe returns with her sophomore offering, Trouble In Paradise.
The singer-songwriter says this is “a coming-of-age celebration of being a woman and having fun, not taking life too seriously.” She tells Nylon that it’s actually a conceptual piece too.
“The story of this album is like when you have a summer fling,” she added. “You’re a hopeless romantic and you fall in love, deep. You know it won’t last forever, but it feels too good to really care.”
There’s a special reunion here. That’s because Chlöe’s sister Halle, the other half of Chlöe x Halle, shows up on “Want Me.” Elsewhere, Ty Dolla $ign, Anderson .Paak, YG Marley, and Jeremih lend their vocals to the project.
The Parkwood star also says this LP is allowing her to express more joy. “It’s just time to have fun and be with your girls and get a little extra loving here and there,” she told Teen Vogue. “It’s definitely a summer vibes album, and I can’t wait for people to enjoy it.”
LL Cool J f. Saweetie — “Proclivities”
LL Cool J links up with Saweetie for “Proclivities.” The new song marks Big Ellie’s latest single from the icon’s forthcoming album, The Force.
“I got you in the air, feels good to be alive / That’s what happens when the pressure is applied,” L raps on the track before he continues: “It’s parking lot pimpin’, yeah, I’ll park it in your eye.”
Saweetie handles the chorus with a nod to “Jingling Baby.” Then she takes the baton for the second verse with a reference to another Cool J classic, “Headsprung.”
To go along with the raunchy single, LL and Saweetie also deliver a risqué new video. Directed by Jake the Shooter, the visual features plenty of nighttime proclivities to match the song’s theme.
