Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre — Missionary
Dr. Dre introduced Snoop Dogg into the musical world. Now, 21 years after his debut album Doggystyle, the Long Beach icon is back with his mentor for their newest collaborative album, Missionary.
Just like things were on Doggystyle Snoop is billed as the Missionary album’s main artist while Dre handles the production. Rappers like Eminem, 50 Cent, and Method Man join Tha Doggfather on this project while Singers like Jhené Aiko, Tom Petty, and Jelly Roll lend their voices too.
Dr. Dre spoke about his working chemistry with Snoop. “It’s all love and respect with us,” he recently told Stephen A. Smith. “That comes first. I just want to see my brother win. So, we go in and we say we’re gonna get down on something. Whatever it is, we put our all into it…We’re brothers and we’re trying to make something dynamic happen at all times.”
Speaking to Dre, Snoop also added: “You produce me. A lot of n—as just give me beats. It’s a big difference. They give me a beat and let me run off…This is also the type of athlete I am: I know I’m good. I put up 50 points a night. But when I’m with this n—a, I’m great. I’m liable to get 100 points like Wilt Chamberlain.”
DMX — Let Us Pray: Chapter X
A posthumous star-studded and prayer-filled DMX album is out.
Killer Mike, Mary Mary and RoyzNoyz Orchestra appear on the opening song “Favor.” The short project also features several guests including Snoop Dogg, MC Lyte, Lecrae, Terrace Martin, and more.
Acclaimed songwriter and producer Warryn Campbell scores DMX’s prayers for this project. The first four tracks are collaborations and prayers while the second four tracks are instrumental versions of the first four.
Campbell recently spoke about the album and how the various collabs came to be.
“I couldn’t call all my rap homeboys but I’ve heard Killer Mike pray heaven down,” he told the PraiseEluJAH Radio Show. “I’ve heard Snoop pray, and MC Lyte pray, and Lecrae so I thought it was a no brainer. At first, I was going to have them rap on the record and then I said, ‘No. DMX is praying so they should pray’ and it worked perfectly.”
Fans of this project will also be excited to know that there’s more to come. “We have a deluxe coming at the top of next year with a couple more prayers and it’s been easier to get people,” Campbell added.
Fat Joe — The World Changed On Me
Joey Crack is back. Five years after his collaborative Family Ties album with Dre from Cool & Dre, Fat Joe returns with a new solo album, The World Changed On Me.
The project opens with a Tony Soprano-inspired monologue about the changing world we’re in. “It’s like the world has changed now,” a voice actor says with Tony’s season 1 type musings. “Everything is f-ckin’ different especially when it comes to this thing of ours, this gangsta sh-t.”
Remy Ma, Ty Dolla $ign, Babyface, Tony Sunshine, Anitta, and more make guest appearances on this album. Chris Rock also lends his voice to a track. Meanwhile, DJ Khaled, Cool & Dre, and Don Cannon are among the album’s producers.
“The world changed on me / Key to the city, got six rings on me,” Joe raps on the album’s title track. “Wouldn’t change for the world, but the world changed on me.”
BossMan Dlow — Dlow Curry
BossMan Dlow has become one of rap’s rising stars with a string of hits. After dropping joints like “Mr Pot Scraper,” “Get In With Me” and “Talk My Sh-t,” the Floridian rapper unveils his newest project, Dlow Curry.
BossMan also calls on some familiar names for this project. Ice Spice, French Montana, Lil Baby, NoCap, BabyFace Ray and GloRilla all make appearances. Elsewhere, D.A. Got That Dope, Gentle Beatz, King Nathan and more handle production.
Steph Curry obviously inspired the album. Beyond the name motivation, Dlow also does Steph’s infamous “goodnight” celebration pose on the LP’s cover.
To go along with the basketball connection, BossMan recently shot a SportsCenter promo. “I work hard; I deserve it all,” he says in the clip. “I ain’t worried about no competition. We the biggest, baby.”
