SZA Says She Would Love to Record a Joint Album with Kendrick Lamar

SZA has made it clear that she’s all in for the idea of a duo album with Kendrick Lamar, and fans are more excited than ever.

The TDE singer recently appeared on Sherri, the talk show hosted by Sherri Shepherd, and addressed the possibility of collaborating with the iconic rapper in a major way.

After Sherri praised the magical chemistry between SZA and Kendrick, calling their collaborations “a genius pairing,” the host asked the burning question: would the two artists consider a joint album? SZA’s response was an enthusiastic “I would love that,” to the cheers and applause of the studio audience.

“I think that would be amazing,” SZA continued, elaborating on her admiration for Kendrick’s unique artistry. “He’s such a genius, and part of his genius is him being so elusive and so mysterious. I don’t know what’s going on as much as you don’t know what’s going on.”

SZA went on to speak about their previous collaborations, specifically the tracks “Luther” and “Gloria,” and how Kendrick’s influence has shaped her creative journey.

“When ‘Luther’ came out, I said, okay, that’s the vocals we’re using. And same with ‘Gloria.’ I love that,” she shared. “He’s a huge part of my ‘fumbling and finding’ era, because I’m just trusting all of his expertise and being thrust into these moments. He’s so good at saying yes and staying grounded, so I’m just like, ‘Teach me, Sensei, what you know.’”

Her words paint a vivid picture of the mutual respect and creative energy between the two artists. While there’s no official word on when the duo album might happen, SZA’s enthusiasm has sparked fresh hope among fans that the project could be on the horizon.

SZA and Kendrick Lamar: The Ultimate Dream Team

SZA and Kendrick Lamar have already blessed listeners with some unforgettable music, from the powerful Black Panther soundtrack collaboration on “All the Stars” to their memorable appearances on each other’s projects.

The idea of a full album from the two feels like a natural next step — a fusion of Kendrick’s complex lyricism and SZA’s soulful, boundary-pushing vocals.

This revelation comes just days before SZA embarks on her Grand National Tour with none other than Kendrick Lamar.

The tour, which kicks off on April 19 in Minneapolis, MN, and wraps up on June 18 in Landover, MD, will see the two artists performing together in cities like Houston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. The tour will also pass through both Kendrick’s hometown of Los Angeles and SZA’s hometown of St. Louis, before heading to Toronto, the city of Kendrick’s longtime rival, Drake.

SZA Hints at Retirement Plans

While fans are eagerly anticipating the tour, there’s a bittersweet twist. SZA has also recently hinted that she may be nearing the end of her music career.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on January 4, SZA revealed plans to change direction with her next two albums and then move on from music entirely.

“To fulfill my last 2 album requirements I think I just wanna make peaceful children’s music n get outta here,” she wrote. “Then go be a farmer n donate the produce to underserved communities.”

This announcement caught many off guard, considering SZA’s SOS album — which was boosted by the release of the Lana deluxe edition — had just returned to the top of the Billboard 200.

Whether this marks the end of SZA’s chapter in music or a temporary break remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: SZA’s next moves, both musically and personally, are bound to keep fans talking.

In the meantime, the idea of a Kendrick Lamar and SZA joint album remains one of the most tantalizing prospects for music lovers in 2025. Let’s hope the universe (and the two artists) makes it happen sooner rather than later.
